A new chapter for Jungans - Eva Olsson takes over Gothenburg's classic café
Published 2/2/2026One of Gothenburg's most popular cafés lives on at Avenyn. When Wallenstam now welcomes Eva Olsson, with extensive experience of running well-known cafés like Evas Paley, Condeco and Fröken Olssons café, to Junggrens, the ambition is to carefully renew a place that has been a natural meeting point for Gothenburgers for over a century.
"Avenyn is one of Gothenburg's most important meeting places and Jungans has always played a special role here. It feels very nice to welcome Eva Olsson, who with her experience and intuitive sensitivity will contribute to strengthening Avenyn's life and pulse, and will help Jungans enter its next chapter," says Marina Fritsche, Vice CEO and Regional Director Gothenburg at Wallenstam.
Jungans has existed on Avenyn since the end of the 19th century and has survived two world wars. For generations, people have met here for conversations, coffee breaks and everyday life.
"This feels really great and is like a position of trust. Jungans is the Gothenburgers' café, a second living room where so much life and conversations have taken place. My starting point is to recreate and renew at the same time - to take inspiration from the spirit of Jungans as a café and meeting place, but let the venue speak for itself about what it wants to become," says Eva Olsson.
The offering will largely build on Jungans' café tradition - from the iconic shrimp sandwich to the popular cottage cheese sandwich in a refreshed version - complemented by grilled toast, freshly baked goods from the in house bakery, as well as lunch and warm dishes. Staying true to the heritage of Jungans, the concept will continue to put a strong focus on breakfast at fair prices."
"My ambition is to create something that feels preserved, natural and new - a place where people want to meet and stay for a long time. The aim is to open sometime the middle of May and the start of June this year," says Eva Olsson.
