Safety in Focus: Tenants Experience a More Secure Living Environment
Published 1/19/2026Safety is a key issue highlighted by our tenants when describing their living environment. Based on these insights, Wallenstam has prioritized and continuously developed its safety initiatives. The latest customer survey now shows a positive shift: residential tenants' perceived sense of security has reached 81.8 percent, which is 2.4 percentage points above the industry index.
The positive development in relation to the security issue is due to long-term and structured work that takes place every day involving security inventories, fire protection, background checks and various action plans for incidents.
"The work on security is part of our overall strategy for social sustainability, where we combine physical security inventories, good management and active collaboration with local actors. As a forward thinking property company, we incorporate safety aspects into all our new construction. Our ambition is clear, to create safe homes and vibrant areas where people enjoy living and feel secure," says Elisabeth Vansvik, Communications Director at Wallenstam.
"Our courtyard meetings are also a key part of our work to ensure safe and secure properties. This is where tenants, employees and police or security personnel meet with a focus on dialogue, togetherness and security," says Johan Lejon, Security Manager at Wallenstam.
Wallenstam also works actively with Huskurage, a method for preventing violence in close relationships. Encouraging neighbours to act in the event of concerns, creates a culture of care that contributes to increased security. The company's housing app for tenants has also become a natural part of everyday life for tenants since its launch in 2019. In the community section, approximately 700 posts are published every month with a total of 3,000 comments where neighbours help each other, share tips and create a sense of togetherness.
