Sustainable window replacement in Älta
Published 7/1/2025As part of Wallenstam's long-term work on improving energy efficiency and sustainable property management, a comprehensive update of six apartment blocks is now being carried out in Älta, Nacka Municipality. Solar cells are in place, new heat pumps have been installed and now more than 3,300 windows and balcony doors are being replaced - a conscious choice to reduce energy use while taking responsibility for the climate impact.
Wallenstam with its adopted sustainability goals has committed to halving its emissions from purchased energy by 2030. The energy efficiency improvements and update of several properties in Älta is a concrete step in this work. By choosing Nordic Swan Ecolabelled windows, fossil-free transport and recycling of the old windows, the carbon footprint from the project is minimized. The glass is being reused as a raw material for new window glass, while other parts of the window are being recycled for materials and energy.
"Through this collaboration with Mockfjärds, we can combine energy efficiency improvements with circular solutions. The window replacement is part of our overall work on updating the property and is an important step in our efforts to reduce our climate impact and contribute positively to achieving our sustainability goals," says Robert Norin, Head of Property Management at Wallenstam in Stockholm.
"Our offer is designed for property owners that want to make a difference. By combining energy-efficient and ecolabelled windows with recycling and fossil-free logistics, we can contribute to both climate benefits and a better indoor environment," says Mattias Andersson, CEO of Mockfjärds.
The project began in early 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
