2,720 new signs for better waste management

Published 3/9/2023

In order to facilitate and improve the waste management in Wallenstam's 204 properties, new signs are now being put up in all environmental rooms. The signs, which clearly refer to different types of containers for waste and recycling, are based on Swedish Waste Management's signage system. The ambition, together with the tenants, is to contribute to greater recycling and increased opportunities to achieve a circular economy.

In recent years, Wallenstam has worked actively to reduce the properties' residual waste and improve the opportunities for sorting at source. The goal has been a reduction of 10 percent per square meter starting in 2019 through 2023. Already last year, the outcome resulted in a total reduction of 25.7 percent per square meter. The next step is now being taken through a new and uniform signage system for all environmental rooms.

"We have had a very good development in terms of waste reduction but we want to continue this positive trend. With a clearer signage system, which is also found in many other places throughout society, we hope for a continued good development of this issue together with our tenants," says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.

The signs, which refer to each container for different types of waste and recycling, will be put up in the spring in all of Wallenstam's properties. In all environmental rooms in apartment buildings, a descriptive information sign will also be erected which will provide clear examples in Swedish and English of what is included in each waste category. On the same sign, there is also a QR code to the website sopor.nu to clear up any question marks and create new opportunities for better sorting of waste.
