Colorful solar cell façade taking shape in Mölnlycke Fabriker

Published 6/10/2021

Wallenstam's garage with 1,500 solar cell modules in the façade has now started to take shape in Mölnlycke Fabriker. The solar cell modules will produce energy for the garage's lighting, charging stations for electric cars and in addition, they will also generate renewable energy for the electrical grid. It is companies in the Soltech Group that are behind the construction of the colorful solar cell façade of almost 900 square meters in size, which brings to mind the design style of the textile artist Viola Gråsten.

For the future tenants of the more than 700 apartments in the area, the garage will be the central car park. The façade will be almost 900 square meters in size and will change in shades of blue, terracotta red, green and orange when it is soon finished.

"It is really fantastic that this project is now a reality and the solar cell façade is proof that architecture, green technology and design can be advantageously combined. The fact that we are implementing the project with two of our sister companies is extra nice and we are convinced that Wallenstam will be satisfied with its beautiful new solar cell façade," says Markus Svensson, CEO of Soltech Sales & Support.

Colors and shapes have been a central part of Mölnlycke Fabriker over time. The textile artist Viola Gråsten who worked for Mölnlycke Fabriker from the middle of the 20th century, was internationally renowned for her colorful pattern collections. The solar cell façade will now continue this tradition by representing the area's connection to creative patterns and colorful elements while also generating locally produced green energy.

"We are both happy and proud that the construction of our solar cell façade in Mölnlycke Fabriker has now gained momentum. It is well suited to a cityscape and environment where we want to highlight sustainability in all stages. We are looking forward to being able to use green energy directly from the sun in our new garage for both lighting and charging stations for electric cars," says Marina Fritsche, Vice CEO and Regional Director at Wallenstam.

The solar energy group Soltech has a growth strategy that through acquisitions within the solar, roof, façade and electrical engineering industries, aims to create synergy effects in order to integrate more solar energy into everyday life.
