Bubble tea to open on Kyrkogatan in central Gothenburg

Published 5/6/2021

In summer, the popular tea-based fruit drink bubble tea will be served right in the center of Gothenburg. Then, Me & Tea will open in Wallenstam's premises at Kyrkogatan 19. Bubble tea, also known as boba, comes originally from Taiwan and is served with gelatin-like tapioca balls. The drink is hugely popular with all café-, coffee and dessert lovers in Southeast Asia and the US and is now also starting to conquer Europe.

"For us, an excellent store location in Gothenburg's popular shopping streets was crucial for our choice of premises. It feels really great to open now for the summer. We are very much looking forward to being able to share our strong tea culture and offer Gothenburgers genuine Asian bubble tea directly imported from Taiwan," says Thai Cao, one of the partners in Me & Tea.

Bubble tea was invented in the 1980s in Taiwan, when a dessert with tapioca pearls was mixed into a glass of iced tea. The drink has since then been developed, refined and has become somewhat of a symbol for Taiwan. Today, there are a number of different varieties and flavors and they are served hot as well as cold.

"Me & Tea is an extremely exciting establishment right in the middle of pleasant Kyrkogatan in central Gothenburg and represents both a strong and popular international trend, which we look forward to welcoming to us," says Anders Forsling, Chief Account Manager, Commercial for Wallenstam in Gothenburg.

In addition to a wide range of bubble tea, Me & Tea will also serve ice cream and pastries in a stylish, Instagram-friendly environment.

"We have exclusivity in the Nordic countries to sell products from our supplier in Taiwan, and we look forward to spreading both knowledge of and the experience of genuine bubble tea every day of the week, right in the heart of Gothenburg," says Thai Cao.
